Custom Jewelers by Gianni has served its loyal clientele faithfully, for over 70 years. Passed down from Father to Son the business has seen many seasons, and fashion trends. Custom Jewellers by Gianni was founded by Joseph Lorefice - a veteran of World War ll.
Started just after World War II, the business and its veteran owner, Joseph Lorefice had witnessed Toronto grow and evolve during his five decades behind the counter.
After Joseph was discharged, he took a course in watchmaking that was offered by the army. He mastered the art of watchmaking and became a watch salesperson and a repairer for 5 years before taking a leap of faith and starting his own venture, that we now know as Custom Jewellers by Gianni.
Not long after, the first store opened in East York at Donlands Ave. and O’Connor Dr. His loyal clients came from all across the globe, confident in receiving the custom piece that matches their description and vision. His warm and welcoming personality, love for jewellery making and a familiarity with the trends had made his clients confident to express their design inspirations to him.
Joseph Lorefice was known to consider every single detail and used his experience and creativity to meet the needs of his clients.
Seven years later, Joseph opened the stores on Lawrence Ave. and Warden Rd. in Scarborough. He then opened a store in Pickering at White’s Rd and Highway 2 which was later sold to his son John Lorefice after his retirement.
John is greatly inspired by his father’s values and business ethic and has dedicated himself to the business ever since he was a teenager.
John used to join his father to help him in the store and this is when he discovered his love for jewellery making. John would spend weekends and time after school in his father’s store learning and polishing his skills for jewellery making.
With a loyal clientele, the jewellery business continues to thrive, embracing and celebrating Lorefices’ legacy. John operates it full time and enjoys every second of it as a successful sole owner, carrying his father’s legacy to new heights for more than 50 years. Having learned from his inspirational father, John believes in the same ethics and values that have carried the business to new heights.
